Dyson Pure Hot+Cool: The ideal air purifier for winters

Starting at 54,900, this new purifier also acts as a room heater, though it’s not meant to be a room heater replacement

NEW DELHI : Ever since they started business here, Dyson’s air purifiers have impressed us. However, since their purifiers spout relatively cold air towards you, they are difficult to use in smaller rooms during winters. While the air itself maybe clean, the cool air does make one uncomfortable.

Enter, the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool. Starting at 54,900, this new purifier also acts as a room heater, though it’s not meant to be a room heater replacement.

You can set the temperature using the remote or the company’s smartphone app. The remote now has an extra toggle to control temperature. Of course, the purifier will also toggle fan speed automatically, depending on the air quality in your room, and also the temperature.

So, if you change the temperature while the fan speed is on low, you will hear the purifier kick into high gear, settling down later as it achieves the desired temperature.

That said, while it’s a pretty good room heater, the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool is not going to be a replacement for your air conditioner during summers. It works as a standing fan, but that’s about it. Even at really low temperatures, it won’t really cool down a room in the kind of summer temperatures we have here in India.

Yet, the efficiency here cannot be questioned. It is uncomfortable to have a purifier spouting air towards you during the winters. Whereas earlier you would have had to stop the device from rotating, now you can use its complete 350 degree oscillation capabilities.

One thing worth noting though is, the purifier doesn’t heat when it’s used in the diffused mode, which is the mode that you use to divert air away from you.

Other than that, the purifier’s cleaning capabilities remain as dependable as ever. It looks for PM2.5, PM10, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and NO2 levels in the air.

In sum, the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool presents better value for the customer. If you don’t mind the prices Dyson sells its product at, the Hot+Cool might be the perfect air purifier for you.

  • Cleans medium-sized rooms quite fast
