Recently, Disney plus icon started reflecting on the Hotstar application indicating its arrival in India almost 18 days ahead of schedule.
However, within 24 hours of its release, Hotstar rolled back Disney + for its Indian users. According to a Hindustan Times report, Hotstar in a statement clarified that the availability of Disney+ content was part of a beta trial with limited number of users and the official launch is still fixed for 29 March, 2020.
“A limited release of the beta version of the Disney+ Hotstar app is currently being tested with a small number of consumers, in preparation for the full-fledged app launch on 29th March," a Hotstar spokesperson told Hindustan Times following the availability of Disney+ content in India.
For a limited period, users in India got a blue theme to mark the arrival of Disney Plus. The website, however, still followed the same colour scheme.
But, as it was a beta trial, a lot of users on Twitter highlighted that the content of Disney Plus had vanished and they naturally seemed to be quite dissatisfied with the roll back.
With the launch of Disney Plus Hotstar in India, Netflix has a direct competitor who has a wide array of international labels under its belt. Last month, Netflix stopped offering the first month for free to new users. However, the company later came up with a ₹5 subscription plan for a few new users. The new plan was launched as a trial and is not available to all first-time users.
So far, the pricing of Disney Plus Hotstar is the same at ₹999 a year and ₹299 a month. Netflix on the other hand has multiple monthly plans starting at ₹199 (only mobile) and goes all the way up to ₹799.
