Huawei launched its new Honor 20 series smartphones in London on Tuesday in a presentation that emphasised the Chinese company's technology but made no reference of a possible rupture with Google .

Huawei, the world's second-biggest phone maker, runs its devices on Google's Android platform but the US Commerce Department blocked Huawei from buying US goods last week, throwing future software updates into question.

On Tuesday, the United States temporarily eased restrictions on Huawei, granting the Chinese phonemaker a licence to buy US goods until August 19, meaning that updates of popular Google apps like Gmail and YouTube can continue until then.

George Zhao, president of Huawei's youth-focused brand Honor, told hundreds of reporters, bloggers and analysts that he was "really happy to see so many friends" at the event.

He unveiled the Honor 20 Pro, Honor 20 and Honor 20 Lite, which will retail at 599 euros (about 46,500), 499 euros (about 39,000) and 299 euros (about 23,000) respectively.

The Honor 20 and 20 Pro offer the same all-glass design, a circular-notch cutout display and run Magic UI 2.0 based on Android 9 Pie. The Lite variant comes with a lower-spec processor and camera module along with other cost-cutting measures so as to be more affordable.

The Honor 20 and 20 Pro come with Huawei's HiSilicon Kirin 980 processor. The Honor 20 comes with up to 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage while the Honor 20 Pro maxxes out at 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. The two smartphones share the same 6.26-inch LCD display with a resolution of 2340x1080. The only thing distinguishing the two smartphones (other than the storage and RAM volume) is the rear camera module. The Honor 20 Pro comes with a 4,000mAh battery while the Honor 20 is backed by a 3,750mAh battery.

The Honor 20 Pro comes with a 48MP+16MP+8MP+2MP camera combo. The 48MP high resolution primary sensor is paired with some AI trickery that promises to offer better night time photography while the 16MP and 8MP sensors offer super wide angle and telephoto capabilities respectively. The 2MP macro camera lets a user take macro shots at a distance of 2cm. It is available in Phantom Black and Phantom Blue colours

The Honor 20 comes with the same primary 48MP primary sensor, 16MP wide angle camera and the 2MP macro sensor, but instead of the 8MP telephoto camera, it comes with a 2MP depth assist camera. It is available in Midnight Black and Sapphire Blue colour schemes.

Both, the Honor 20 and 20 Pro come with the same 32MP selfie camera.

The Honor 20 Lite comes with a mid-tier Kirin 710 SoC paired with up to 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. It runs EMUI 9.0 based on Android 9 Pie. It comes with a 6.21-inch LCD display running at 2340x1080 resolution with a dot-notch to accommodate the front-facing camera. It comes with a 24MP + 8MP + 2MP rear camera configuration in which the 8MP sensor offers wide angle capabilities while the 2MP sensor is dedicated to depth sensing. It is backed by a 3,400mAh battery.

The Honor 20 Lite is available in Midnight Black, Phantom Blue and Phantom Red colours.
