X reportedly suffered a widespread outage on Tuesday evening, with users in India and the US reporting issues accessing the app and website. Downdetector showed thousands of complaints, with major cities in both countries among the worst affected.

X, formerly known as Twitter, reportedly faced a service disruption worldwide on Tuesday evening, with several users reporting difficulties with the app and website.

Thousands report issues across India

According to the outage tracking website Downdetector, more than 2,000 users in India reported problems around 7.43 pm IST. The data indicated that 46% of users experienced issues accessing the website, while 41% reported problems with the mobile app. A further 13% flagged server connection issues.

Downdetector’s outage map showed that the disruption was most pronounced in major cities, including Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Indore, Chandigarh, Kolkata and Mumbai, among others.

Widespread disruption reported in the United States

Notably, the outage tracker also recorded more than 20,000 complaints in the United States at the same time. In the US, 59% of users reported issues with the app, 25% faced problems accessing the website, and 16% experienced disruptions with the Feed or Timeline.

The Downdetector outage map highlighted Los Angeles, Phoenix, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta and Chicago, along with several other areas, as being affected by the reported disruption.

Mint could not independently verify the outage, as the Elon Musk-owned social media platform was accessible and functioning normally for its team members at the time of writing.

Social media users react

As news of the outage spread, many users took to other platforms to express their frustration. Some tweeted humorous memes about being cut off from the world.

As the alleged outage unfolded, X users took to the platform to express their frustration. One user, @ingelramdecoucy, tweeted, “Every time X goes down I’m forced to go do productive things in the real world, Elon please fix this.”

X account BTS Charts Daily also reacted to the disruption, tweeting, “X IS DOWN NOOO.”

Another user, X @YashasGuneria, highlighted the technical issues in a tweet directed at X’s team and Elon Musk: “Is it me or is X down? There is a bug on X where users can not see posts, live feeds are paused and facing some distruptions Please look into this @xai @elonmusk @nikitabier.”
