Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter, recently made a remark about Mark Zuckerberg's new app, Threads, referring to it as a "Twitter clone". The comment was made on July 6, when Dorsey tweeted, "We wanted flying cars, instead we got 7 Twitter clones."

Twitter's legal representatives earlier sent a letter to Meta, the parent company of Facebook, on July 5. In the letter, Twitter accused Meta of utilising trade secrets from former Twitter employees to develop Threads. Additionally, Twitter requested Meta to preserve internal documents relevant to the ongoing dispute between the two companies. This information was initially reported by Semafor.

Twitter owner Elon Musk commented on the matter, tweeted, "Competition is fine, cheating is not."

Threads, an Instagram app that facilitates real-time public conversations, experienced extraordinary success shortly after its launch.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that within just two hours of its release, more than two million people had downloaded the app. The number of downloads rapidly escalated, reaching five million within four hours and surpassing 10 million by the end of the day. By the following morning, Threads had been downloaded over 30 million times.

In less than 24 hours, Threads emerged as the fastest-growing app ever, positioning itself as a potential competitor to Twitter. It outpaced ChatGPT, a chatbot developed by OpenAI, which achieved one million downloads in its first five days.

According to Similarweb, an analytics firm, Threads is projected to surpass 100 million users within two months, a milestone previously attained only by ChatGPT.

Notably, influential Twitter users, including Ellen DeGeneres, Bill Gates, Shakira and Oprah Winfrey, promptly joined Threads and began sharing posts. The platform experienced a celebratory atmosphere as users exchanged welcome messages and expressed excitement about engaging with one another's content. At one point, the app faced temporary instability due to the overwhelming influx of users.
