Jio Wi-Fi calling: How to use, eligibility, benefits, other details explained

    Telecom major Reliance Jio on Wednesday announced the launch of voice and video calling service, which would run over WiFi networks across the country. The service, which is termed as the VoWiFi service will provide free voice and video calling for all Jio customers and will be available on over 150 handsets. It will enable them to switch to voice over Wi-Fi inside their homes/offices.

    "Jio has been testing this service over the past few months, to provide a robust experience to every customer at launch," the company said in a statement.

    1. You can use any Wi-Fi network for Jio Wi-Fi-calling

    2. The voice and video calls will switch-over between VoLTE and Wi-Fi to provide voice/video-calling experience

    4. Jio customers can also make Video over Wi-Fi calls

    Reliance Jio announced that this service comes with no additional charge. The customers making Wi-Fi calls to Indian numbers will be also be free of cost, regardless of the location within India. This means, that the calls can be made even when your phone is on roaming.

    Apart from this, there are certain benefits that Jio is providing its customers. The service works on any Wi-Fi, anywhere in India. All you need to activate the service is to have a smartphone that is capable of performing Wi-Fi calling and an active Jio tariff plan.

    How to enable Wi-Fi Calling?

    Follow these steps to enable and make Wi-Fi calls your Jio tariff plans:

    -Switch Wi-Fi calling feature ON your Wi-Fi-calling capable handset by going to settings.

    -Connect to a Wi-Fi network and that's all. You can now make free Wi-Fi calls anywhere.

    Note that for a seamless experience you should keep both VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling switched on.

    How to make calls once Jio Wi-Fi Calling is enabled:

    -Once you set up Wi-Fi Calling, you will have to follow the same process as traditional voice calls

    -Your phone will automatically toggle between Wi-Fi and cellular network to provide you a seamless call experience.

    The Jio Wi-Fi Calling service does consume minimum Wi-Fi data as phone and video calls are made. Voice calling uses less than half MB of data per minute, claims the company. However, it also mentions that the actual data usage of your voice or video call may vary.

    To enjoy this new service without any interruptions, you should be upgraded to the latest device software update of your Android or iOS smartphones and have access to a high-speed and stable Wi-Fi internet connection.
