Nvidia Corp. and MediaTek Inc. will partner on technology to power advanced vehicle infotainment systems that can stream video or games or interact with drivers through artificial intelligence, the companies said Monday.

Under the agreement, MediaTek will integrate Nvidia graphic processing unit chiplet and Nvidia software into the system-on-chips it provides to automakers for infotainment displays, Reuters reported citing companies announcement at the Computex technology trade show in Taipei.

The feature would be compatible with automated driving systems based on Nvidia technology, the companies said. The dashboard displays would show the environment around the vehicle, while cameras can monitor the driver.

“Nvidia is a world-renowned pioneer and industry leader in AI and computing. With this partnership, our collaborative vision is to provide a global one-stop shop for the automotive industry, designing the next generation of intelligent, always-connected vehicles," MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai said.

Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang  said “AI and accelerated computing are fueling the transformation of the entire auto industry."

“The combination of MediaTek’s industry-leading system-on-chip plus Nvidia’s GPU and AI software technologies will enable new user experiences, enhanced safety and new connected services for all vehicle segments, from luxury to entry-level,"Huang said.

"The quality, strength and positions of our two companies could give the automotive industry partners that they can build their companies on," Huang said, adding that the partnership would provide chips that can power "every single segment of a car."

Automakers are adding artificial intelligence (AI) generative features like voice-activated features, driver monitoring systems, and displays related to automated driving, making the in-vehicle displays and entertainment systems more complex.

Qualcomm, MediaTek's chief rival in the smartphone market, has also been courting automakers. Qualcomm and SalesForce earlier this year announced a partnership to develop a new connected vehicle platform.

The partnership with MediaTek will reportedly allow Nvidia wider access to the $12 billion market for infotainment system-on-chips, the companies announced.

The first products are expected to be released in late 2025, Tsai said
