Realme 3i goes on sale today: Is it the right smartphone for you?

  • Realme 3i will be on a limited time-period sale for the first time in India starting 12 pm on 13 August via Flipkart and Realme.com
  • It is similar to the Realme 3 that was launched in March this year

Chinese smartphone brand Realme launched the Realme 3i last month in India. The smartphone is a more affordable, stripped down variant of the Realme 3 smartphone that was launched in the first half of the year. Realme will today put the Realme 3i on a limited time-period sale for the first time in India starting 12 pm.

The smartphone will be available on Flipkart and Realme.com with offers including 5% cashback on Flipkart for customers using Axis Bank Credit Cards and HDFC Bank Debit Cards. Customers will also receive a 1,000 discount on TV purchases from Flipkart if they buy the Realme 3i. If you plan on buying the smartphone through the Realme India website, you can avail a 10% SuperCash cashback on MobiKwik transactions and Reliance Jio benefits worth 5,300.

The Realme 3i maintains a similar form factor as the Realme 3—it's got similar dimensions and a very familiar look— with the dew drop display and all. But it feels very different in the hand.

It uses a textured matte plastic back in three eye catching colours. The body, unlike most Realme smartphones, is not glossy, making it stand out among the plethora of similar-looking smartphones. It also gives a very satisfying feel in the hand. Just try not to end up with ball-point pen marks on it.

We recommend the Diamond Red colour, but there's also Diamond Black and Diamond Blue variant.

The Realme 3i is powered by a MediaTek Helio P70 processor and comes in two RAM/ROM configurations of 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB. The inbuilt storage is expandable via MicroSD card to 256GB. It runs Android Pie with Oppo's ColorOS 6.0 running atop. It is lit by a 6.2-inch HD+ display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

At the back is a dual rear camera setup on the Realme 3i, with a 13MP+2MP camera setup. At the front is a 13MP selfie sensor. The primary camera performance is acceptable when shooting in the daylight, but it loses out in low light scenarios even with a night mode. Realme is offering Camera 2.0 API, so you can load up the Google Camera app to get the most out it.

Finally, the smartphone is backed by a 4,230mAh battery without any support for fast charging. This means, even though the smartphone can last well over a day, charging it can take more than four hours.

You should get the phone if you want a good looking, reasonably snappy phone under 10,000; and if you're bored of using Redmi devices. This isn't the smartphone for party-loving Instagrammers, and you'll have to wait for a significant time to charge the smartphone entirely.

The Realme 3i is priced at 7,999 for the base 3GB/32GB variant. The 4GB/64GB variant is priced at 9,999
