Sony’s PS5 has been in the pipeline for quite some time now. The company still seems to be working on the controller's design. A patent filed by Sony indicates that the company is planning to embed a sensor in the controller to gather biometric data from the player’s hand. If this patent ends up being in the controller that Sony pairs with the PS5, the player feedback will help developers build unique games.

Heart rate, sweat accumulation and other biometric data can provide crucial information about how the player feels about a centain part of the game. The gameplay can be tailored according to the realtime stats shared by the controller. Though the immediate use of the sensor is still debatable, it can have a major impact on the gaming ecosystem.

One of the biggest concerns, however, is the added price of the hardware. According to a report by Bloomberg, the company’s expenditure on the console is already reaching $450 per unit, which is even more than what the PS4 was priced during the launch. The biggest culprits in increasing the cost of production is the processor and graphic card along with the dynamic random access memory (DRAM), which still seem to be bothering Sony.

Sony has not revealed any information about the controller but we know that it will be called DualShock 5, thanks to an error on the company’s website. The technology in the patent is promising but doesn’t necessarily mean that Sony will go for it. The launch of the new console is expected to happen around the festive season in US which is towards the end of this year.
