WhatsApp is currently working on a revamped message menu for its Android app, as reported by sources. The new menu is expected to resemble the context menu found in iOS when messages are selected. Upon long-pressing a message, the menu will offer five options to choose from. This update was discovered in the WhatsApp beta version 2.23.11.4 for Android, indicating that the redesigned message menu is still in development and will likely be released in a future beta update. Additionally, WhatsApp has recently been observed developing an Android user interface reminiscent of the iPhone's design.
The instant messaging app is reportedly in the process of redesigning the message menu for Android, as per information from WhatsApp development tracker WABetaInfo. The redesigned menu is expected to have a resemblance to the context menu found in WhatsApp for iOS. This update will allow users to conveniently select actions for a specific message. WABetaInfo has also provided a screenshot of the upcoming message menu, which reveals five options displayed below the selected message: Delete, Forward, Reply, Keep, and Info.
To recall, the existing user interface in WhatsApp displays six options, namely Delete, Forward, Reply, Star, Info, and Copy, at the top of the chat window when a message is selected. Furthermore, emoji reactions are also visible on the selected message. The upcoming message menu, which was discovered in the WhatsApp beta version 2.23.11.4 for Android, introduces a redesigned layout.
WhatsApp has not provided any information regarding the timeline for making this improvement available to beta testers. As is the case with all developing features, the company might introduce it in a beta update before releasing it on the stable channel. Alternatively, there is a possibility that the feature may not be implemented at all and could be abandoned.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp has agreed to deregister mobile numbers from its messaging service that have been detected as acting to commit fraud, and whose mobile services had already been disconnected, telecom minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Tuesday.
“We have actively engaged with WhatsApp and they have agreed that yes, customer safety is most important, and they are absolutely on board to deregister the users which have been detected as fraud users,” the minister, responding to a query on steps taken by the government to stop scammers calling from so-called international numbers on WhatsApp aiming to defraud unsuspecting consumers.
