Xiaomi India will launch the successor to its bestselling Android One series on Wednesday. Named the Mi A3, the smartphone was earlier launched in Spain in July at €279 (about 22,200). The smartphone will be the third Android One device by the Chinese smartphone maker.

Background

The Mi A3 has its roots in the Mi CC9e that was launched last month in China as a stripped down variant of the Mi CC9. The smartphone series was claimed to have been designed by 'cool and chic' Chinese art students. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said the CC in the name stands for 'colorful & creative'. The Chinese version of the smartphone have Meitu branding. Meitu is a smartphone company that made selfie-centric smartphones with funky designs that was acquired by Xiaomi last year.

Mi A3: Expected specifications

The smartphone comes with a 6-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 1560x720. It has a U-shaped notch to accommodate the front facing camera. It is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 665 chipset paired with up to 4GB of RAM and 128GB of inbuilt storage.

At the back, it has a triple camera setup in a 48MP+8MP+2MP configuration. At the front it has a 32MP selfie camera.

It is backed by a 4,030mAh battery and ships with an 18W fast charger.

The main selling point of the smartphone is its design. Xiaomi, during the launch of Mi CC9, said that the smartphone was designed by art students. The Mi A3 will come with stunning back panels that refract light to form wavy reflections.

Like all Android One devices, the Mi A3 runs the latest version of Android and guarantees consistent software and security updates.

Expected pricing

Xiaomi India has said the smartphone would be priced lower than the Mi A2, which means it might offer more value for money as it will come with a better display, processor and material design. The company hasn't provided the live stream links of the launch. Xiaomi did say that the Mi A3 would be launched at 12 noon on 21 August.
