Five things to know about the Mi CC9, Mi CC9e

Xiaomi launched a new smartphone series in China on Tuesday—the Mi CC-series. Under the series, two new smartphonesm namely the Mi CC9 and Mi CC9e were launched. The former starts at 1,799 Yuan (about 18,000) while the latter starts at 1,299 Yuan (about 13,000).

The Meitu connection

The smartphones are the first Meitu-branded devices to be launched following the company's acquisition by Xiaomi in November last year. Before Xiaomi's acquisition, Meitu was a smartphone company that made selfie-centric smartphones with funky designs.

Xiaomi Mi CC9: Specifications

The Mi CC9 is lit by a 6.39-inch AMOLED display made by Samsung with a dew-drop notch and a screen to body ratio of 91%. The display has a FHD+ resolution and maximum brightness of 600 nits. The CC9 has an in-display fingerprint scanner.

The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 710e processor paired with 6GB of RAM. It comes in two storage variants of 64GB and 128GB. The former is priced at 1,799 Yuan (about 18,000) while the latter is priced at 1,999 Yuan (about 20,000)

The Mi CC9 is backed by a 4,030mAh battery and ships with a fast charging 18W charger. It runs Android Pie with MIUI 10 custom UI running atop.

In terms of optics, the smartphone's rear camera setup comprises a 1/2-inch 48MP primary rear camera with the pixel size of 1.6 microns. It has an aperture of f/1.79 and is fitted a 6P lens. It is accompanied by an 8MP wide angle sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. It is armed with AI scene detection and night mode.

Other features of the smartphone include LTE, WiFi, NFC, Hi-Res audio, Bluetooth 4.2 and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.


The front facing sensor that sits under the dew drop notch has an AR enabled 32MP sensor. It has AI capabilities for skin beautification and also Xiaomi's own augmented reality emoji functionality called "Mimoji". It is very similar to Apple's Memojis and Samsung's AREmojis. Mimojis let you superimpose an AR version of you in the form of an avatar on your face. It tracks your facial expressions and head movements.

Mi CC9: Colour variants

The Mi CC9 comes in three colour variants—White Lover, Blue Planet and Dark Prince. The Blue Planet colour variant has a dark blue colour that creates wavy 3D-light refraction patterns.

Mi CC9e: Specifications

Xiaomi also launched the Mi CC9e alongside the Mi CC9. It is a stripped down variant of the CC9.

The smartphone sports a smaller 6.08-inch AMOLED display with the same brightness, resolution and aspect ratio. It is powered by a lower spec Snapdragon 665 SoC and comes in three memory/storage variants—4GB/64GB, 6GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB.

It is backed by the same battery capacity as the Mi CC9 i.e. 4,030mAh and carries the same camera setup as the CC9 at the back and front.

The Mi CC9e is priced at 1,299 Yuan (about 13,000) for the 4GB/64GB variant, 1,399 Yuan (about 14,000) for the 6GB/64GB variant and 1,599 Yuan (about 16,000) for the 6GB/128GB variant.
