In April 2023, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) announced the launch of Amul in Karnataka, leading to controversy and opposition from political parties and consumers who fear that the move will harm the Karnataka Milk Federation's (KMF) Nandini brand and farmers' livelihoods. The controversy is rooted in fears of a possible merger between GCMMF and KMF, but the state government denies any such plans. KMF's Nandini brand is one of the cheapest milk brands in the country, making it difficult for Amul to gain a foothold in the state. However, GCMMF's decision to enter Karnataka reflects its ambition to expand its footprint and gain market share in new regions.

GCMMF's branded consumer products registered a growth of 14% over the previous year, with products such as cheese, butter, and curd growing between 20% to 40%

The dairy industry has immense potential in West Bengal as both raw material and demand are present and Amul has already firmed up a ₹200 crore new processing plant there

The price hike on Amul milk will apply across all six brands being sold in major pockets of Gujarat and Maharashtra

Amul will first start selling camel milk in Ahmedabad and will later launch in other cities

The new price will come into effect in Delhi market from Saturday and in Ahmedabad and Saurashtra regions from 4 June
