India plans a mid-path emission standard for sub-50 HP tractors to avoid steep cost hikes, ease industry worries and ensure cleaner norms don’t hurt farmer affordability.

A proposal put forth by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, which oversees the norms, outlined lenient emission reduction targets for cars weighing less than 909 kg. Most carmakers besides Maruti Suzuki and Toyota opposed this.

The two-wheeler maker's performance was aided by sales volume expansion: 8% in the domestic market and 77% in international sales. Sales of its electric scooters surged 158% by volumes. Smaller rivals Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor had earlier reported strong results in the quarter.
