Fossil fuel producers have been trying hard to slow the global transition to clean energy. Still, consumers will eventually decide. Soaring copper and silver prices show that cleantech is winning against carbon-based energy. Even state backing may not extend the reign of fossil fuels.

Conditions have been created for a ramp-up of nuclear energy. While it promises steady, carbon-free electricity for a cleaner grid, high fixed costs, long timelines and fast-improving renewables mean our policy framework must go by a cost calculus that accounts for various trade-offs and factors.

India’s new nuclear law promises to give atomic power a role in its climate strategy by opening doors to private capital, new technologies and faster capacity growth. But liability, regulation and public trust will decide whether this bold reset boosts clean-energy or stalls at execution stage.
