Cyclone Montha is expected to trigger heavy to extremely heavy rainfall on Wednesday in parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Telangana, South Chhattisgarh, and Odisha.

The IMD has issued red alerts for heavy rains in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Odisha as Cyclone Montha approaches landfall. The cyclonic storm, with maximum winds of 110 kmph, is expected to significantly affect several states.

The IMD said the deep depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal intensified into a “cyclonic storm” on 26 October. It will further turn into a “severe cyclonic storm” by 28 October.

As cyclone Wipha approaches, Hong Kong International Airport faced severe disruptions with over 280 flight cancellations. A No 3 typhoon warning is in effect, and preparations include deploying staff at the airport and suspending regular classes at all schools.

Cyclone Michaung: Schools and colleges in the Chennai district of Tamil Nadu will remain closed for another day, the state government said on Thursday. The official statement came as parts of the city remain waterlogged following heavy rainfall.

Cyclone Michaung: Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed the home ministry to release in advance the second instalment of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) of ₹493.60 crore to Andhra Pradesh and ₹450 crore to Tamil Nadu, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said.

All schools in Puducherry, Karaikal, and Yanam regions will also remain closed on December 4, 2023.
