Global markets today: Japan's Nikkei extended its post-election rally on Thursday, February 12, surged to new record high of 58,000 for the first time.

Futures for Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index were at 25,975, slightly below the previous close of 25,906.65. South Korea’s Kospi rose 1.04 per cent, and the Kosdaq added 0.51 per cent at the open.

South Korea’s Kospi hit record high on Thursday, opened 1.37 per cent higher, supported by gains in auto and shipbuilding stocks, while the Kosdaq slipped 0.1 per cent.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 climbed over 1 per cent to a new record high on Wednesday amid mixed trading across Asian markets. The Topix index was little changed, while South Korea’s Kospi edged up 0.17 per cent and the Kosdaq slipped 0.25 per cent.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 slipped 0.57 per cent at the open, retreating from its record high, while the broader Topix index declined 0.61 per cent.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 crossed the 50,000 mark for the first time on Monday. South Korea's Kospi surged 1.83 per cent after reaching an all-time high on Friday, and the Kosdaq gained 0.72 per cent.

Global Markets Today: Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.36 per cent at the open, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 slipped 1 per cent and the broader Topix index dropped 0.75 per cent.
