Nifty’s February series rollover stood at 68.2%, falling below the previous expiry’s 70.8% and the three- and six-month averages of 70.6% and 75.6%, as the March series commenced with 142.73 lakh shares in open interest (OI), reflecting a decline of 31.54 lakh shares despite a 1% rise in prices.

Stock exchange BSE notified on Thursday, August 28, proposed to introduce a pre-open session for index and stock futures in the equity derivatives segment. The same is expected to come into force from Monday, December 08, 2025, onwards.

The surge in retail participation in index options reveals a shift in trading dynamics. With lower costs and cash settlements, retail traders are increasingly favouring index derivatives over stock options. Yet, the question remains: Can SEBI truly create a fair trading environment?

SEBI identified 18 trading sessions — 15 involving Bank Nifty and three involving Nifty 50 — where the group allegedly engaged in “sharp, large, and aggressive interventions” across the cash and derivatives segments. These actions, SEBI said, distorted market prices and undermined market integrity.

Jane Street's strategy involved large-scale purchases of Bank Nifty futures and equities in the morning, paired with aggressive selling of Bank Nifty options. This would be followed by significant selling in the futures market post-noon, thereby impacting the closing level of the index.
