The Kangpokpi incident happened in the morning hours of 13 May at a place between Kotzim and Kotlen villages when members of the Thadou Baptist Association (TBA) were returning from Churachandpur after attending a religious congregation

The controversy concerns the now-closed sedition case filed against Dr Chingiz Khan in relation to an allegedly controversial article way back in 2020. Dr Khan had co-authored an article titled ‘Pangals victim of manufactured insecurity,’ published by an English newspaper on 7 April 2019.

Violence erupted in the Ukhrul district after a Tangkhul Naga member was reportedly assaulted. Initial resolutions failed, leading to clashes and arson, with 21 homes burned. Following the violence, the state government has suspended internet services in the district for five days.

Yumnam Khemchand Singh has taken oath at the Lok Bhavan in the presence of several BJP legislators, senior party functionaries, and top leaders of the NDA in the state.
