Large-, mid- and small-cap indices are at different stages of recovery from their previous peaks. While Nifty Midcap 150 is almost back to its record high, Nifty 50 has a wider gap to close. A study highlights how past corrections have shaped recovery timelines.

The Nasdaq 100 emerged as the biggest long-term wealth creator over the last 20 years, with 21.3% returns. Among Indian equity benchmarks, the Nifty Midcap 150 TRI delivered the highest annualised return over the same period at 16.3%.

Adani Total Gas shares surged nearly 11%, while other top index gainers included Info Edge (India), Tata Communications, JSW Energy, Waaree Energies, Premier Energies, Tata Investment Corporation, SAIL, and OIL India, which advanced between 2% and 5%.

Amidst the uncertainties, Indian mid- and small-cap indices have delivered a standout performance in the last two months. The Nifty Smallcap 100 has surged over 20% from its March 2026 lows. The Nifty Midcap 100 has climbed nearly 15%, touching fresh highs in May 2026.

Mid-cap companies under Motilal Oswal’s coverage have now clocked their fourth consecutive quarter of standout performance, posting a robust 34% YoY earnings growth, far exceeding expectations of 23%.

Mid-cap stocks outlook: Q4 FY25 marked a clear turning point, with mid-caps outshining both large and small-caps on the earnings front. The Motilal Oswal Midcap universe reported 19% YoY PAT growth—nearly double that of large-caps and well ahead of small-caps.
