The Indian stock market faced another decline on January 9, with Nifty 50 falling 0.75% and Sensex down 0.72%. The week saw Nifty drop 2.45%, marking its largest weekly decline in over three months. Broad market pressure continued, with many stocks experiencing significant losses.

This was the fourth straight day of decline for the BSE barometer Sensex, as it lost 345.91 points or 0.41% to settle at 84,695.54. Meanwhile, its NSE counterpart, Nifty 50, ended 100.20 points or 0.38% lower at 25,942.10 today.

The Sensex jumped nearly 600 points to an intraday high of 85,067, while the Nifty 50 reclaimed 25,991 on the upside. The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices rose over half a per cent each during the session.

Nifty 50 slipped below the critical support zone 25,800 level, which has been serving as a key short-term demand base. Analysts believe a decisive break-down below 25,800 would weaken the broader upward structure and may accelerate selling pressure, dragging the index toward the 25,500 zone.

The Indian benchmark indices stepped further back from their all-time highs hit in trade earlier this week amid a fourth straight day of fall on Wednesday, December 3.

The Indian stock market extended losses to the second day on Tuesday, December 2, as investors booked profits at higher levels.
