The oath-taking was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, chief ministers of NDA-ruled states, senior BJP leaders and thousands of party workers from across the state.

Article 164 of the Constitution of India says that a chief minister holds office as long as they enjoy the confidence of the Assembly. Once that majority is lost, the government becomes constitutionally untenable. Mamata Banerjee's term ends on 7 May.

West Bengal Election 2026:The 142 seats voting in phase 2 today are considered the incumbent Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC)’s core stronghold spread over south Bengal and the Kolkata district.

Under the new guidelines, SD cards used in polling booth cameras cannot be removed immediately after voting ends, and officials concerned will only be permitted to dismount the cameras, which must then remain under the supervision of the sector officer.

A journalist asked Shah who would be the BJP's CM face. Another added that it would be one of the two BJP leaders sitting with Shah when the manifesto was released.
