Into the wild

Tasneem Khan: “I was squatting in a freshwater stream in South Bay, Andaman and Nicobar Islands in 2010 when I suddenly noticed something hovering to my right. A pair of damselflies were mating. The male fly was clasping his mate by the neck, skimming the water surface and repeatedly dipping the female’s abdomen into the shallow water. All this while, the female was depositing her eggs in the submerged vegetation. Photographing wildlife under water is gruelling; you are bound by time, lack of air, the physiological limits of the body under pressure and the challenge that everything is in motion.”<br />
