Apple is doubling down on its India plans. It is planning to shift more than 18% of its iPhone production to India. For the global tech giant, India is now a preferred manufacturing location. Modi government’s PLI scheme is driving increased mobile phone assembly and production in the country and companies like Apple are responding to government’s call to make in India. Apple already produces 7% of its iphones at its factories in India. This number is now all set to nearly increase 2.5 times to 18% by FY 25. A Bank of America research report, citing the recent success of mobile phone assembly and production in India claims increased production of mobile phones in India will lead to a significant shift in global supply chains.
