How Bournvita Is Tapping Influencers To Highlight Lower Sugar Levels Year After 'Too Much Sugar' Row

Bournvita was hit by the biggest controversy they've ever seen in April 2023, when an influencer who calls himself 'Food Pharmer' uploaded a video on his social media handle criticising Bournvita, saying that it contains an excessive amount of sugar which was not safe for children. This video went viral - people questioned and criticised Bournvita and demanded answers from Mondelez-owned Cadbury. In fact, the influencer even got a legal notice from Mondelez India dismissing his allegations as unscientific and distorted. But... this only intensified the public scrutiny. This entire controversy led to a probe even by the child rights body, who asked Cadbury to withdraw all misleading ads, packaging and labels. It all ended with Bournvita actually losing its status as a health drink, with the Indian government asking e-commerce sites to remove that tag from all such products. But all of this happened a while ago... so why are we talking about it now? Well, that's because now, more than a year after the controversy, Bournvita seems to have launched a large-scale campaign led by influencers, to highlight the fact that the drink has lower sugar content and even nutritional benefits. Can this help them regain the confidence of consumers? Watch!
