Canada’s trade negotiations with Washington have collapsed after the US imposed 50% tariffs on $20 billion worth of Canadian goods. Ottawa has vowed dollar-for-dollar retaliation from 8 September. The rupture may accelerate India-Canada talks for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Both sides aim to conclude the deal by the end of this year and raise bilateral trade from the current $8 billion to $50 billion by 2030 — a more than six-fold increase.
