NSSO said that the MCA 21 database of companies, maintained by the Central government, had 36% firms which were either shell companies or were classified wrongly. This has led to fresh questions being raised about GDP figures calculated by the Central Statistics Office, which used the MCA 21 data. The government, however, maintains that the issues plaguing the companies database have no bearing on the GDP or Gross Value Added numbers. Watch the full video for more.
