Bharatiya Janata Party stalwart and former Union Minister Sushma Swaraj breathed her last in Delhi on August 6, 2019. Her remarkable political career began with election to the Haryana Assembly, and inclusion into the state cabinet, in 1977. A stint as Delhi Chief Minister followed before she served as a Union Minister under Atal Bihari Vajpayee. During the ten years of UPA rule, Swaraj led the BJP’s charge in Parliament. Following Narendra Modi’s election in 2014, she assumed the charge of the Ministry of External Affairs and transformed its manner of functioning.
