Lonar Lake

Located in Maharashtra's Buldhana district, Lonar Lake was created by a meteorite. It is the only major hoverback in basalt rock, and has alkaline water. 

Bhedaghat

On the banks of River Narmada are the picturesque white marble rock formations of Jabalpur's Bhedaghat. Under the brightly lit moon, 100 feet tall mountains of marble change form as the Narmada passes through it. 

Gandikota gorge

Gandikota Gorge in Andhra Pradesh, known as the "Grand Canyon of India," features stunning cliffs and the Pennar River. 

42 world heritage sites in India

Mines Secretary V L Kantha Rao said there are about 1,200 world heritage sites worldwide, 42 of which are in India, but none of these are geological sites.

100 geo-heritage sites in India

Rao said there are about 100 geo-heritage sites in India, of which 32 have been officially recognised as National Geological Heritage Monument Sites

Tourism sites 

These National Geological Monuments, Rao said, are known mostly as tourism sites, and people are not aware of their geological importance.
