A clownfish begins life as a male and later transitions into a female. If the female disappears, the largest male will undergo a sex change and take her place. 

A sex reversal occurs among this species when temperatures rise above 32°C, causing male chromosomes to develop as females, potentially boosting reproductive success in challenging environments. 

In this fish, young females can permanently transform into males. These new males can mate with females and produce offspring.
