An ancient species from the Amazon is said to have a cow's dung-like smell due to its plant-based diet. Like cows, hoatzins are often seen resting as they digest.

These species have hefty beaks, often seen roaming the swamps of northeastern Africa and hunting lungfish, turtles, and baby crocodiles. The birds are generally solitary, even when paired with one another. 

Often called the “flying rat,” it is the largest living pigeon species and stands out with its vibrant cerulean feathers and elegant, lacy crest. 

These birds have curved, pointed beaks to sip nectar from flowers, making them a striking example of evolutionary adaptability.

Although the 12 frogmouth species are some of the strangest birds, the stout frogmouths are less aerodynamic, preferring to sit and wait for insects and small animals to come near.
