Justice Sanjiv Khanna was sworn in as the 51st Chief Justice of India, succeeding DY Chandrachud, for a tenure of six months. 
Here’s what you should know about the 51st Chief Justice of India:
Born on May 14, 1960, his legal career started in 1983 after joining the Delhi Bar Council as an advocate. He has extensive experience across various fields, including constitutional law, taxation, arbitration, commercial law, and environmental law.

Justice Khanna served as the senior standing counsel for the Income Tax Department, representing the National Capital Territory of Delhi. In 2004, he was appointed the Standing Counsel (Civil) for the NCT of Delhi.

Justice Khanna has represented and argued numerous criminal cases at the Delhi High Court, both as an Additional Public Prosecutor and an amicus curiae.

He was appointed a permanent judge in 2006, after serving as an additional judge of the Delhi High Court from 2005. During his time at the Delhi High Court, he held key positions, such as Chairman/Judge-in-charge of the Delhi Judicial Academy, Delhi International Arbitration Centre, and the District Court Mediation Centres.

After his tenure at the High Court, Justice Khanna transitioned to the Supreme Court, where he began serving as a judge in 2019. As per a report, he is one of the few judges to be elevated to the SC before becoming the Chief Justice of any High Court.
