The crested owl is the sole member of its genus, Lophostrix, it easily earns a spot among the world’s weirdest birds.

With its prehistoric appearance and striking features, the Southern Cassowary ranks as the third-tallest bird on the planet, standing up to six feet tall. 

Listed as Vulnerable, the shoebill looks like a creature from the prehistoric era, with its massive, shoe-shaped bill and fluffy head giving it an almost mythical appearance.

Despite its vulture-like appearance, the secretary bird sticks to a diet of seeds and small invertebrates, staying true to its guineafowl lineage.
