Fog is a common weather phenomenon that reduces visibility during winter months
Limited visibility has been a major concern for Indian Railways
Due to poor visibility, movement of freight and passenger trains is severely affected
As a result, the trains reach their destinations late and have to be often rescheduled or cancelled
Indian Railways have taken steps to to minimise affect of fog on train operation
Railways will install fog-safe devices on all locomotives to alert crews
The station masters will use a Visibility Test Object (VTO) to assess severity of the fog
The loco pilots will also be given special training to tackle low visibility issues

Lime marking on the track for approaching signals is also done to aid crew during period of impaired visibiity
Cleaning and maintenance work will also be performed on rolling stock to minimize delays
