Former chief of Army Staff and President of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf passed away in UAE on February 5, 2023

He served as the 10th President of Pakistan after taking power in a successful coup in 1999

Early life

Musharraf was born on August 11, 1943, in Delhi and his family moved to Karachi in 1947

He was a graduate of the Army Staff and Command College, and later joined the army in 1964

Coup and Presidency

The former four-star general took control of Pakistan in a bloodless coup in 1999

He cited corruption and mismanagement as the reason for mounting a challenge to PM Nawaz Sharif govt

He served as Pakistan's army chief during the Kargil war

Post Presidency

In 2014, he was indicted for suspending the constitution 

In 2019, a special court awarded him death sentence in the high treason case

Death

Musharraf took his last breath in Dubai while suffering from a rare disease called amyloidosis
